Real Work & Resumes

Resumes. We’ve learned that in order to secure the dream job we have to showcase the most exaggerated version of ourselves on paper. But what if you don’t have that much to put on paper? What if your previous experience has nothing to do with what you want to do now? You need experience to get the work but you need the work to get the experience. It’s ridiculous and it seems like you’ll never get to where you’re trying to go.

Enter me, the career connoisseur. What does that even mean? Well, I have had more career experiences than anyone that I know. Like seriously, I’ve been in fashion, event planning, modeling, sales, international flight attendant, education, personal training, chauffeur, and I’ll stop because I really don’t want the blog to be too long. Makeup artistry is definitely my most creative job but whenever I look at my resumes (all 10+ versions) I often forget how some of the other roles that I’ve played contribute to my makeup business. For example, while working in admissions at a university, it was my job to reach out to new students by phone, email, and giving presentations. This job alone gave me the confidence to talk to people and sell the benefits of the schools programs. This easily transfers to the role as a freelancer because even though I may only be applying makeup, it’s not just the finished application that convinces people to book you over the 2,934 other artists in your area. It’s your skills, ability to make people feel comfortable, AND confidence that will make the difference. You’re not selling for someone else, you’re selling YOU and YOUR BUSINESS!

I used to think that having so many interests in careers was a curse. Turns out it’s actually a blessing!! I have literally done so many aspects of freelancing and entrepreneurship that I have been able to speak with hundreds of people like you who are STUCK to discover, define , and make winning plans for their business. Where are you in your process to being a Beautypreneur, Entreprenuer, or any other aspect of the beauty industry? Whether its websites, portfolios, Social media, branding, industry specialties, professional kit, products, getting published, getting paid, or simply getting started- There’s an answer to your question.
